How to Take Bridal Measurements for a Hijab Wedding Dress (At Home)

Woman measuring bust with a tape measure at home for a modest hijab bridal dress fitting, with sewing tools and a bridal gown in the background.

A couture fit starts with accurate measurements. At Fatma Sevildi Couture, every bridal gown is handmade in our Istanbul atelier—no mass production, no glued lace, and fully hand-finished details. Your measurements are the foundation of the entire made-to-measure process, from pattern creation to final photos before shipping.

Important: Our gowns are made specifically to the measurements you provide. Once production begins, orders cannot be canceled, returned, or refunded—so it’s essential to measure carefully and double-check before sending. (Please review: Refund Policy.)

What you need (2 minutes)

  • A soft measuring tape
  • A mirror (or a friend to help)
  • Fitted clothing (bodysuit/leggings + thin top)
  • Notes app or paper
  • Your wedding shoes (or heel height)

Pro rule: Use centimeters (cm) for all measurements.

Before you measure (avoid these 4 mistakes)

  • Stand straight, breathe normally (don’t hold your breath)
  • Keep the tape snug, not tight (parallel to the floor)
  • Measure over thin fitted clothing (no bulky layers)
  • If you’re between sizes, note both numbers

(If possible, ask a friend to help for cleaner accuracy—especially for back/shoulder measurements.)

Planning tip: If your wedding date is fixed, check your ordering window first: Hijab Wedding Dress Timeline + Shipping.

The key bridal measurements (made-to-measure)

Take each measurement twice and write the final number in cm. Do not add “extra allowance” unless we ask—if you prefer a looser fit, simply note it (for example: “looser sleeves”).

1) Bust

Measure around the fullest part of your bust, tape parallel to the floor.

2) Underbust

Measure directly under the bust. This supports structure and corsetry placement.

3) Waist

Measure the natural waist (narrowest point). Don’t “suck in.”

4) Hips

Measure around the fullest part of your hips and seat.

5) Shoulder width

Measure from shoulder bone to shoulder bone across the back.

6) Upper chest / upper body length (optional but helpful)

From the middle of your shoulder down to your belly button (helps proportion balance on modest silhouettes).

7) Sleeve length (long sleeve accuracy)

From shoulder point to wrist bone (arm slightly bent). If sleeves are a priority for comfort, read: Long Sleeve Bridal Fit: Sleeve Types + Comfort Tips.

8) Bicep / upper arm circumference

Measure around the fullest part of the upper arm. If you want extra ease, write a separate note (“comfort sleeves”)—don’t add cm yourself.

9) Wrist

Measure around your wrist bone for cuff comfort.

10) Hollow to hem (dress length)

From the hollow at the base of your neck down to where you want the hem to fall with your wedding shoes.

11) Height + heel height

Write your total height and the heel height you’ll wear on your wedding day.

Silhouette affects proportions (especially length + waist placement). If you’re choosing between A-line, ballgown, or mermaid, use: Modest Wedding Dress Silhouettes (A-line vs Ballgown vs Mermaid).

Pro couture tip: send 2 photos (privacy-friendly)

For the most accurate made-to-measure result, send two quick photos (face can be outside frame):

  • Front view (natural posture)
  • Side view (natural posture)

This helps confirm proportions and sleeve/waist placement before production.

Fit notes you should know (transparent couture)

  • Body changes after submitting measurements can affect fit; please keep measurements consistent until your event.
  • Minor local tailoring (hem/sleeve length) may sometimes be needed—this is normal in couture and not grounds for refund.
  • If an item arrives damaged or with a production error, contact us within 48 hours with clear photos.

Coverage refinements: If you want higher neckline / extra lining / sleeve extensions, decide early: Modesty Add-Ons (Lining, Neckline & Sleeves).

FAQ — Bridal Measurements & Made-to-Measure (Fatma Sevildi Couture)

1) Which unit should I use—cm or inches?
Please send all measurements in centimeters (cm). If you only have inches, send both and clearly label “inches.”

2) What should I wear while measuring?
Wear fitted clothing (bodysuit/leggings + thin top). Avoid loose or bulky clothes—this is one of the biggest sources of error.

3) Should I measure alone or with help?
Best results come when you ask a friend to help—especially for back width, shoulder width, sleeve length, and dress length.

4) How tight should the measuring tape be?
Keep it snug, not tight. The tape should lie flat and parallel to the floor—no squeezing, no gaps.

5) Which measurements do you need most?
We primarily need: Bust, Underbust, Waist, Hips, Shoulder Width, Sleeve Length, Biceps, Wrist, Height, Hollow-to-Hem, Heel Height.

6) Do I need to add extra centimeters for comfort?
No. Do not add allowance unless we ask. If you prefer a looser fit, tell us in a note (example: “looser sleeves”), and we’ll adjust correctly.

7) Where do I send my measurements?
Send via WhatsApp (above) along with your order name + email/phone so we can match it quickly. If you want guidance first: Contact / Consultation.

8) What happens after I submit measurements?
Your dress enters made-to-measure production, then you receive final photos before shipping. Full timeline here: How Long It Takes (Production → Final Photos → Delivery).
